What is the mission of the school?
City View Charter School is a learning community of students, teachers, and parents who practice collaboration, lifelong learning, critical thinking and service to the community to nurture our curiosity, character and creativity – especially that of our students – by applying the philosophy and practices of Expeditionary Learning. What grades will the school serve?
City View serves Kindergarten through 8th grades. How much is the tuition? Charter schools are tuition-free; however, there is a fieldwork fee of $175 per student ($125 for the Kindergarten class). Charter Schools are funded through the state and rely on private and foundation grants and parent donations to develop school programs. There is also a Kindergarten fee of $100 per month. What do Fieldwork fees cover? This fee is used to bring in experts to talk to the crews, supplies for the expedition, learning opportunities in the community, and the overnight adventures. These fees need to be paid directly to the school and are non-refundable. Our budget for fieldwork is contingent on the fieldwork fees. It is important to pay fieldwork fees by the end of September so each crew leader can plan their work for the year. You may pay one half of the fees by the end of September and the remainder by the end of December by making arrangements with the Business Director. If a family is unable to pay the fee they may request a scholarship from the school. Does the school provide meals? Parents provide a snack and lunch for their child. We have microwaves available. Does the school provide busing or other transportation? Not at this time. However, the crew parents do assist with optional carpooling. Who can attend? As a public school, City View Charter School is open to all students in the appropriate grade levels. During enrollment priority is given to students with siblings already enrolled and then to students living in the Hillsboro School District. Do I have to live in the Hillsboro School District to enroll my child? No, students from any school district may attend City View. During enrollment, however, priority is given to students within the Hillsboro School District. Where is the school located? The school is located at 4174 SE Bentley Street, Hillsboro, OR. Our mailing address is: PO Box 1808, Hillsboro, OR 97123. What is Expeditionary Learning? Expeditionary Learning is an educational approach based on teaching children through long-term, in-depth projects. It also emphasizes moral values and working together as a cohesive class & school unit. |
