City View Charter School Board of Directors Seeks New Member

The City View Charter School Board of Directors is now recruiting for a new board member!  We currently have six members serving on the board and wish to bring that number back to seven. We seek members who can bring a diversity of perspectives, skills and experiences to the board.

The City View Board of Directors consists of elected community members who serve three-year terms on a volunteer basis. Board members receive no compensation for their service and are dedicated to shaping policies that align with Oregon and Federal laws governing schools. These policies guide the Executive Director in managing the school's day-to-day operations effectively.

  • Fiduciary Oversight: Managing the budget, assets, and ensuring fiscal viability
  • Academic Accountability: Monitoring student performance data and ensuring City View Charter School meets goals outlined in its charter with Hillsboro School District
  • Governance and Policy: Setting policies, hiring and evaluating the Executive Director, and ensuring ethical conduct
  • Strategic Planning: Developing long-term goals and maintaining City View Charter School's mission
  • Community Advocacy: Promoting City View Charter School and engaging with the local community

What does a Board member do?

  • Believes that ALL students can and will learn
  • Commits to serve a term of three years
  • Prepares for and attends monthly public Board Meetings
  • Actively participates in committees and work groups
  • Attends trainings, strategic planning, and emergency sessions to respond to urgent needs
  • Supports City View Charter School and its mission

2)      Applicants must submit the online application form (Google Form) and upload the required materials, including a resume and optional cover letter, and complete all required fields.

3)      Upon receipt, the Governance and Ethics Committee (GEC) will send the applicant an acknowledgement confirming that the application has been received.

4)      Applications will be reviewed at the next scheduled GEC meeting.

5)      If the GEC elects to proceed with an applicant, the applicant will be contacted and, over the following weeks, will be asked to complete the following steps:

  1. Meet with school leadership and participate in a campus tour.
  2. Attend a Board meeting to become familiar with meeting procedures, members, and current topics.
  3. Interview with the GEC.

8)      Following the interview, the GEC will provide its interview notes to the Board during a Board meeting. The Board will make the final appointment decision by vote at an upcoming Board meeting.

9)      The Board Chair or GEC Chair will notify the selected candidate following the Board vote.

10) Candidates who are not selected will be contacted by the GEC Chair and may be provided with recommendations for alternative opportunities to support the school.
