Admission FAQ's

City View Charter School in Hillsboro, Oregon, operates under specific admission guidelines:
  1. Application Eligibility: Applications are open to all residents of Hillsboro, Oregon, and surrounding areas. City View is a public school, so there is no tuition fee.
  2. Enrollment and Fieldwork Fees: While tuition is not charged, we do have a suggested donation of $850 yearly per student.
  3. Admission Process:
    • Admission to Kindergarten is limited to 48 students per incoming class.
    • For grades 1-8, admission depends on available openings and vary from year to year.
    • A computerized lottery system is used for student selection, ensuring fairness and randomness.
    • Priority for admission is given in the following order:
      • Siblings of currently enrolled students. A student is considered a current student once they have attended one or more days of school at City View.
      • Students currently residing within the Hillsboro School District.
      • Students residing outside the Hillsboro School District.
    • Once available spots are filled, the remaining applicants are placed on a waiting list in the order drawn by the lottery.
These procedures ensure that City View Charter School maintains transparency and fairness in its admission process. The school accommodates students primarily from Hillsboro while considering applicants from surrounding areas based on available openings.
We encourage families to begin their application process by exploring our website and attending our open houses to learn more about our program. All applications submitted by the deadline are entered into the annual lottery, held in the spring. The lottery determines admission for Kindergarten applicants and fills any openings in grades 1-8 for the following school year. After the lottery, families will be emailed about their student's admission status or waitlist number. Families will have one week to decide whether to accept the offered spot.
Families with multiple students or twins may experience a situation where one child receives a spot while the other is placed on the waitlist. However, after the school year begins, siblings on the waitlist are prioritized based on the number of siblings already attending the school, moving them to the top of the waiting list for their respective grade.
Our Kindergarten Crew typically has the most openings, but the number of available spots varies each year. Siblings of existing students may fill some of the spaces. Interested families can still apply and will be added to the waitlist in case spaces become available.
As a public charter school, we have limited special education and student services resources. The Hillsboro School District provides a Resource Materials Teacher and a Speech and Language Pathologist for students with IEPs; however, these specialists are only available on a part-time basis. Please schedule a placement meeting with City View Charter School and the SpEd team at your current or "home" school for students with IEPs or 504 plans.
For applications received by the lottery deadline, the lottery process will determine whether you have received a space in a class or your position on the waitlist. Our waitlist is recreated annually after each lottery and is utilized throughout the spring and summer to fill openings as they occur.
City View currently charges no fee, however, there is a suggested donation to the school. Additionally, a non-refundable enrollment fee of $50 is due prior to enrollment forms being processed.
The lottery will be ran electronically with a random generator. The system will email and/or SMS text you information about either your student's placement in a space at City View or their waitlist number.
We give priority to siblings of currently enrolled students, students who currently reside inside the Hillsboro School District boundaries, and students who reside outside the District's boundaries.
Please take a look in your SPAM folder as they can sometimes go there.  If you still cannot find it, please just log into your account and you can review your information.

Historically we have to go to the waitlist during the summer.  Often what happens is a family will make a different decision during the summer and we will find out in August or the first part of September. So please think about if we were to call you in September would you be ready to move your student?

No, we do not keep our waitlists year to year. If you would like to try for a space for the next school year you will need to reapply starting next January.

Yes, you will be emailed and/or receive an SMS text if a space becomes available.

If a space does come available anytime during the school year we do try and fill that space. Again we work our way down the waitlist until it gets filled. The only exception is if the space comes available after April 1st of the school year, at that time the space will remain unfilled due to limited time in the rest of the school year.
City View lottery dates are as follows:

2nd Round Lottery: May 23, 2024. The final cut-off date for application is May 21, 2024
The 2nd round lottery is for families who applied after April 22nd through May 20th.  After May 22nd, families will be placed on our waiting list on a first-come, first-served basis.
