Bridge the Gap Fund

We Are Crew: We Can Bridge the Gap Together

At City View Charter School, we believe education is an adventure. We challenge our students to achieve success across three dimensions:

  • mastering rigorous academic content
  • cultivating strong character
  • producing high-quality work that demonstrates craftsmanship and authentic voice

Through our EL Education model, our students don’t just read about the world; they engage with it as active investigators, working alongside expert mentors and conducting professional fieldwork. This approach empowers every child to build the skills and compassion needed to become stewards of a better world.

The Purpose of the Bridge the Gap Fund

Every City View student deserves an exceptional education filled with meaningful learning experiences, hands-on expeditions, and opportunities to grow as leaders and citizens. Yet as a public charter school, City View receives significantly less state funding than traditional district schools. Based on projected 2026–27 enrollment, a comparable non-charter public school would receive approximately $6.1 million in state funding, while City View is expected to receive just $5.2 million—a gap of nearly $917,000, or about $1,837 per student.

Unlike traditional district schools, City View does not benefit from local bond measures (which we support) that often fund school facilities, technology investments, curriculum adoption, and other long-term capital needs. These essential expenses must be funded from the same limited resources used to support our students and educational programs.

At City View, responsible financial stewardship is a cornerstone of our success. Through careful budgeting, disciplined financial management, and thoughtful oversight, we maximize every dollar entrusted to us. As a result, we are not asking our community to cover the entire funding gap. Instead, our goal is to bridge just $400,000 of the $917,000 difference through philanthropic support.

Every gift helps sustain the programs, expeditions, and educational opportunities that make City View unique. Together, we can ensure that every student continues to benefit from the rich, engaging, and transformative education they deserve, despite the funding disparities charter schools face.

A Collective Celebration of Purpose

Bridging this gap is not the responsibility of any one person—it is a joyful mission shared by our entire crew. We are a community of parents, grandparents, alumni and friends, all working alongside our students to keep our school thriving.

There are many ways to be part of this collective effort:

  • Monthly Giving: By signing up to give monthly, you provide our school with a steady and predictable foundation that allows us to plan for our spring expeditions and classroom projects with confidence all year long.

  • Giving What You Can, When You Can: One-time gifts provide an immediate and powerful boost to our Bridge the Gap fund, offering the vital resources needed to launch our next great student adventure right now.

  • Corporate Matching: Many local employers will match your donations, or even your volunteer hours, dollar-for-dollar. This is a powerful way to double the impact of your contribution at no extra cost to your family.

  • Stock Donations: Donating appreciated securities is a highly tax-smart way to sustain our mission. By transferring stock directly to the school, you can amplify the power of your gift while maximizing your own potential tax benefits.

  • Student-led Efforts: Our students lead the way by hosting events like our bake sales, school dances and the Wolf Walk, demonstrating that their own service and effort are vital to our success. We invite our entire community to join the crew by supporting these student-led initiatives, which turn shared joy and hard work into a meaningful investment in our school.

  • Events: Our volunteer-driven events, such as our annual auction, school carnival, and other fundraising opportunities as they arise, offer meaningful ways to connect as a community while turning shared fun into a collective investment in our classrooms.

  • Community-Driven Programs: These programs allow you to channel your everyday spending directly toward our school through Bottle Drop, Box Tops, Fred Meyer Community Rewards, and our local dine-out nights. These activities provide a powerful way for our community to turn daily routines into significant, ongoing support for our students.

You Can Help Bridge the Gap!

When we all contribute—no matter the size of the gift—we ensure that the City View journey remains vibrant and accessible for every student. We invite every member of our community to participate at a level that feels right for their household, helping our entire crew reach the finish line with joy and purpose.
